My First Nomadiversary!

Can you believe it’s been a year already? I moved into my tiny home and started my nomadic life December 17, 2021.

Leaving Georgia, December 17, 2021

So much has happened in the past year. I traveled non-stop the first six months and enjoyed it, but then a series of events led me to temporarily come off the road. I had a string of problems (mostly self-inflicted) with my trailer, and needed to stay put for a few months to get them taken care of.

I was in San Antonio when things went sideways and couldn’t travel too far from where I was at, so I applied for several work camping jobs around Texas. God provided a wonderful opportunity for me near Dallas and my son Skyler. A position came open on Lake Grapevine and it was perfect! I’m a gate attendant at a COE park. I work 4 days on, 4 days off, 5 hours a day. It’s a volunteer position so there’s no pay but instead I get a free full hook up site. The people I work with are the best. No drama, and they’re as nice as can be.

My park family. I love these people!

The Texas heat this summer was BRUTAL!!! Temps were over 100 degrees regularly and even got as high as 107. The site I was in (affectionately known as “the Serengeti”) had no shade and because I only have one a/c unit in my rig, I had to buy a portable air conditioner. It still got up to 85 degrees inside but with fans on along with the two a/c’s we made it. Lord willing, I will NEVER spend another summer in Texas! Luckily, we had a girl leave and I was able to move to a better site in October.

The Serengeti. The awning & shade really helped in the afternoons...until a pop up storm broke the arms and tore the awning 😢

The plan was to stay here till the end of September, but I need to get caught up financially, so I was able to extend my position through March 2023. The bonus is I get to spend the holidays with my son!

I’m itching to get back on the road and have a pretty amazing trip to the Pacific Northwest planned. My dad was stationed at McChord AFB near Tacoma WA and I spent most of my childhood years there. I’ll be visiting several National Parks along the way as well as getting reacquainted with some old favorites. I can’t wait to take y’all along with me.

Thanks for reading this and sorry I haven’t been posting. Losing Gable really knocked the wind out of my sails and along with all the problems I caused myself I just didn’t feel like writing. I’ll start posting again when I start traveling. Until then, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah, Happy Holidays!
